Hyundai Motor India Limited has introduced the updated Hyundai Exter in India, with prices starting from Rs 5.80 lakh and going up to Rs 9.42 lakh (ex-showroom). This revamped compact SUV features various improvements in design, interior, features, and safety while keeping its current powertrain options. Hyundai mentions that the new Exter includes over 25 upgrades, aimed at making it more appealing to city dwellers and younger families. The refreshed Exter builds on the positive feedback the model has received since its launch, having already attracted more than 200,000 customers in India. With this update, Hyundai aims to give the SUV a more modern appearance, a more upscale interior, and extra features while also enhancing its safety offerings. Even with these updates, the overall mechanical setup stays the same, sticking to a proven approach.

On the exterior, the updated Exter has a more bold and upright profile, with changes that strengthen its SUV attributes. The front has been redesigned with a wider grille, a new center garnish, and updated bumpers, providing it with a more commanding presence. At the back, new tailgate and C-pillar garnishes create a sharper and sportier look, while a wing-style spoiler adds to its aesthetic charm. The SUV is now equipped with new 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and more noticeable wheel arch cladding, enhancing its rugged and muscular appearance. Hyundai emphasizes that the Exter remains the tallest SUV in its class, with one of the longest wheelbases, improving its on-road presence and interior roominess.

Inside the vehicle, the Exter undergoes a significant transformation with a more upscale and modern design. It now presents a dual-tone navy blue and grey interior theme, paired with a new 3D carbon-pattern finish on the dashboard. The interior also gets a sportier vibe with a D-cut steering wheel and first-in-class metal pedals. Comfort and functionality have been enhanced with the addition of a folding driver armrest, updated seat upholstery, and better ergonomics. Hyundai has made driver seat height adjustment and adjustable rear headrests standard in all variants, boosting comfort for all passengers. The SUV still offers a roomy interior along with a trunk space of 391 liters.

Regarding features, the Exter facelift receives a notable upgrade with more advanced and connected technologies. A standout feature is the new dashcam, a first in its segment, that provides added safety and convenience. The SUV also supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and includes a Type-C USB port for rear passengers. Hyundai has outfitted the Exter with over 60 connected car features through Bluelink and offers more than 300 built-in voice commands that work even without internet access. Existing amenities, such as an electric sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, and OTA updates for maps and infotainment, remain available, ensuring the SUV is well-equipped for its segment.

In terms of mechanics, the Exter has not changed. It still uses a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder Kappa petrol engine, which can be chosen with either a manual or AMT gearbox. Hyundai points out that it is the only SUV in this category to have a refined four-cylinder petrol engine, making for a smoother driving experience. The CNG version, called Hy-CNG Duo, is designed with a dual-cylinder layout to improve trunk space. It also now includes a spare tyre located underneath, which adds to its practicality, while still providing 225 litres of usable storage for everyday items. The updated Exter has seen an increase in safety features, with Hyundai now offering over 45 safety options in total. Notably, 30 of these features are standard in all models, highlighting the brand’s emphasis on providing safety to everyone.

New features include Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) as standard, plus six airbags available in all models. With these changes, the Exter keeps itself positioned as a well-rounded and safety-conscious compact SUV in its category.
