WhatsApp is said to be trying out a new feature for its Android app that makes handling storage simpler. A new quick option is being developed by the Meta-owned messaging app, according to a feature tracker. This option will allow users to check and clear storage directly from chats, so they won't have to go into the app settings. This feature will help users quickly find and delete the biggest files taking up space on WhatsApp on their device. WABetaInfo, a feature tracker, reported that some users found and reported this new storage management feature in the latest WhatsApp Beta update. It was found in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.31.13, which the company recently released. While not available to everyone yet, this shortcut is being worked on and might be included in a future app update.
From a screenshot shared by the feature tracker, WhatsApp will add a quick shortcut to chats for checking and managing device storage. This is said to be the same option found in WhatsApp settings under the Storage tab, but the shortcut should offer fast access.
Users will see a list of all shared files, sorted from largest to smallest, making it simple to find and remove unneeded items to free up space. This new tool lets them delete several files at once. They can also mark some media files as favorites so they don't get deleted by mistake. Additionally, users can pin specific content at the top of the storage screen for quick access.
WABetaInfo noted that this new storage management shortcut for WhatsApp is still being developed and is only accessible to beta users signed up through the Google Play Beta program. According to the tracker, beta features are released gradually and might not be immediately available to everyone.
