On Thursday, Google revealed the Year in Search 2025, showcasing several interesting patterns concerning search activities by individuals in India this year. The search that gained the most popularity in 2025 was the Indian Premier League, reflecting the deep love for cricket in the nation. Surprisingly, Gemini ranked as the second most searched topic, indicating a rising use of Google's AI chatbot among people. Additionally, the tech company shared a list of the leading trending searches involving AI, memes, films, news stories, and more. This year, the terms 'Indian Premier League' and 'Gemini' were the top searches on Google for people in India. Three other cricket-related terms — Asia Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, and Women's World Cup — also found their way into the top 10 list. Other widely searched topics in the country encompassed Maha Kumbh Mela, Saiyaara, and Dharmendra.

In the meantime, Google Gemini led the list of the most popular AI-related searches in India. Grok by Elon Musk took the third position, while Deepseek and Perplexity were the fourth and fifth most searched terms. According to Google, ChatGPT was ranked seventh, and the well-known ChatGPT Ghibli Art trend was in the eighth spot. Regarding searches related to the word ‘trending’, AI trends captured the public's interest. The order of Google's list features the Gemini trend, Ghibli trend, 3D Model trend, and Gemini Saree trend. Numerous acclaimed films and TV series also appeared in Google's list of top searches across both categories in 2025. The five most searched movies included (in order) — Saiyaara, Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1, Coolie, War 2, and Sanam Teri Kasam. Likewise, the top five TV series searched in India were Squid Game, Panchayat, Bigg Boss, The Bads of Bollywood, and Paatal Lok. The most common location-related queries focused on earthquakes, AQI levels, Pickleball, and the Saiyaara film.
