Massachusetts leaders are working to ensure that all the residents, including the low income families, have access to the renewable energy sources. Many low-income residents cannot afford to install solar panels or the renewable energy technologies which provide long term cost savings.
On Thursday, the Baker administration announced grants of $10-million to make energy more affordable for the low-income residents by installing the clean energy technologies like solar panels, and $3-million will go toward installing the solar electric and energy efficient heating and cooling systems in the low-income housing units.
State Senator Anne Gobi told to 22News that, the programs like this will help families to save on one of their largest expenses, “Massachusetts has been the leader in clean energy for the entire United States. Anything we can do to get more people into the program is a positive.”
The awards are expected to provide the low-income residents with up to $4.5-million in energy as cost savings.
