Meta has taken over the startup, Limitless, which focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) wearables. The company announced this news on Saturday, noting that the vision of the social media leader contributed to this purchase. Interestingly, Limitless introduced its first item, an AI Pendant, that continuously records sounds around it to assist users in locating specific information through voice commands or text prompts. Although the startup did not disclose the financial specifics or any structural changes anticipated, it seems the company will maintain some level of independence. The homepage of the startup now shows the message “Limitless has been acquired by Meta,” along with a YouTube video and a brief note from Co-Founder and CEO Dan Siroker. He mentioned that Limitless decided to go through with the acquisition to expand their technology and speed up the product development process, which aims for personal superintelligence.

However, the CEO of Limitless did not discuss the rising competition in the market or the absence of new products following the Pendant. Sharing a hopeful outlook, Siroker stated, “We’re no longer working on an unusual fringe concept. We are creating a future that now seems unavoidable. We are not alone.” He further mentioned that both Meta and Limitless share a common goal of providing “personal superintelligence to everyone” and “creating amazing AI-enabled wearables.” This suggests that Limitless-branded products will continue to be released even after the acquisition. The startup did not disclose any financial information regarding the deal, nor did they outline any changes the company will face. However, it appears that the Limitless brand and Siroker's position will remain the same. It is unclear whether the company will be led by Meta’s Superintelligence Labs or Reality Labs, which focuses on AI glasses.

The announcement also mentioned the AI Pendant and current users of the product. The company will not be launching any new devices, but current users will receive at least one year of free support. All existing users will transition to the Unlimited Plan at no additional cost. However, some features not related to the Pendant, like Rewind, will no longer be available. To take advantage of this support, users must agree to the updated Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Those who choose not to continue using the device can either export their data or delete it through the app. At this moment, Siroker did not provide any information about future products.
