Robert DeLeo, the speaker of the Massachusetts State House announced on Wednesday, that, legislators will set statewide regulations for taxi ride companies like Uber and Lyft, on a priority basis, in this winter. They are expected to draft the bill by February.
Winthrop Democrat, said that, “We will find a way to make companies such as Uber and Lyft part of the permanent landscape in Massachusetts while keeping in mind the benefit that competition from taxicabs and livery companies brings to the marketplace, consumer choice is a good thing, and we will take up legislation that accomplishes that goal in the month of February.”
Taxi companies criticized the lack of regulations on so-called transportation network companies, after Uber entered in the Boston. These companies permit users to call a ride under their finger tip. In September, 2015, a legislative committee has considered several bills linked to ride-hailing technology.
