A pregnant elephant died in Malappuram, Kerala on May 27th. The innocent animal died after the locals fed the firecrackers filled pineapple. After the firecrackers exploded inside the elephant’s mouth, it came to a river and died standing.

The whole nation mourned with agony for the poor friendly elephant who believed in humans. Doctors later learned that the dead elephant is pregnant.

Sunil Kumar of Mannakkard divisional forest officer believes that the elephant might have freed itself from Silent Valley National Park’s buffer zone. He said “We have registered a case for killing the wild elephant but nobody has been arrested. We are waiting for the postmortem report to find out the exact cause of it’s death.”

The 15 year old wild elephant was wandering for food in the streets of Malappuram and that locals gave it to eat. After crackers exploded inside the animal, she ran to nearby Velliyar River and stood in with pain. With no time, she died but didn't harm or create any damage to the villagers.

The Forest Minister Of Kerala said "Stringent action will be taken against the culprits who are responsible for the killing of a pregnant elephant. "

The Chief Minister of Kerala objected to the incident and he said, the government will take “strict action” against the culprits who are involved in this heinous act.

He tweeted “In a tragic incident in Palakkad dist, a pregnant elephant has lost its life. Many of you have reached out to us. We want to assure you that your concerns will not go in vain. Justice will prevail.”

Reacting on the unacceptable incident Ratan Tata called it “meditated murder”.

An organization fighting against animal cruelty, Human Society International- India (HSI) announched to Rs 50,000 for handing over the culprit to punish. The organization also took this step and shared their contact number +917674922044 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The investigation over the elephant’s death is still going on. The facts and the culprits are to be caught and charged with the deserving punishment, many social media users said.

Many were wondering at the animal’s kindness and silence after the injury. The saddest part of the incident is to know the “evil like” people killed two innocent creatures.
